Cloud save support is useful if you find yourself needing to transfer a save between two different PS3s. However, registering your account to a PS3 that is not owned by you is a breach of the Sony terms and services since it allows for game sharing (Now the PS3 that is not owned by you can play games you’ve purchased on their account). This does somewhat defeat the purpose of a cloud save if it can’t be accessed freely on other systems without legal hoops to jump through. If you do have multiple PS3s and hate transporting a USB stick around then this is a solution for you. Sony has also stated that copy protected saves can be transferred through the cloud service but have a 24 hour long cool down until they can be copied or uploaded again.
Finally, the cloud save storage amount is a whopping 150 MB (1024 KB) which is roughly enough to hold one save. Though there are many caveats to this new feature it is very cool if it works for you. Hopefully, this is a small step into an increasingly more digital future for Sony systems.
